RAW MATERIALS

The main raw materials in the manufacture of crisps and snack foods are potatoes, oil and corn kernels or cornflour.

Most of the raw materials used at Grupo Ibersnacks come from Spain, with the exception of the potato which for one month per year is imported from southern France due to the lack of crisp potatoes in Spain.

Crops from Extremadura and Andalusia make up 90% of the corn kernels used to elaborate our corn snacks.

Sunflower, corn and olive oils are used in the elaboration of our crisps and snacks.

To a lesser extent palm olein is used for frying some snacks.

All raw materials used are GMO-free.

The Farming plan for growing potatoes

Quality and varieties of potato

  • Consumer preferences for crisps in Spain are:
  • Preference for crisps with yellow flesh.
  • Crispy on the palate.
  • Potato flavour, highlighting a balanced potato and oil flavour.
  • Crisp size medium-high, not too small.

In order to respond to consumer tastes, Grupo Ibersnacks selects varieties, growing areas and farming practices to obtain potatoes that when fried meet consumer expectations.

The potato quality is ensured throughout its life cycle, from the choice of varieties and seeds, during cultivation, harvesting, storage and during processing and packaging.

Grupo Ibersnacks has an agricultural department that manages the farming plan, working with farmers and conducting follow-ups in the field of all potato crops.

  • Yellow flesh varieties mostly used by Grupo Ibersnacks are:
  • AGRIA, LADY AMARILLA, HERMES y CRISPER.

Grupo Ibersnacks consumes a total of 80,000 tons of potato per year.

Corn

Corn

Corn kernels or cornflour is used by Grupo Ibersnacks to elaborate our snacks.

Grupo Ibersnacks processes around 7,500 tons of corn, or the production obtained from an area the size of 580 football fields of cultivated land.

Corn kernels are used for the production of corn strips, triangles and Tex Mex. 90% comes from crops in Extremadura and Andalusia. There are two varieties used, yellow corn and white corn.

Corn kernels are subjected to cooking in water with a little lime, to obtain nixtamal corn (process originated in Mesoamerica -currently Mexico and Central America) which is then ground, rolled, baked and fried to give the excellent corn products we manufacture, with very unique texture and flavour characteristics.

Corn flour is used to make the extruded corn products: Cuquis, Garfitos, Cuquitos and Bombita

All corn used by Grupo Ibersnacks is GMO-free.
